In order to get to know the students’ wishes and needs around the topic “new on campus – what to do”, the BCU team organised an international online workshop together with the members of the ENTRANTS project team.
The session was held on Tuesday 18 May 2021 and had staff and students from various universities as participants.
During the workshop, discussion rounds and interactive group work took place to solve different kinds of first semesters issues such as:
- You’re new to University. You have never lived away from home before and don’t know what to expect.
- You’ve been at the University for a while, but still need help to find a service you’ve never used before.
- You have an important question, but you don’t know who to contact.
- You’re about to finish University and need help in finding a job to start your career.
In addition, there was also input from the students regarding the use of different platforms, what content they expect and what a platform must bring with it.
These tasks harboured some interesting discussions and insight into how students across universities resolved various issues that could arise during their time in higher education. The responses and discussions also showed that an online platform could be very helpful. An online platform could also provide quick resolutions to problems that students face on arrival and during their time at university.
